| The Lights Are On |

Well! The lights are on, the cable's hooked up, the furnace works, the roof doesn't leak. The mailman and the oil truck driver know where I live, and I'm planning to introduce UPS, FedEx, DHS and whatnot slowly, so as not to spook the cat.
Now that my time is my own again (and what a curious phrase that is. Whose time is it, if not our own?), I can get with the program and pick up writing, assuming I remember how after all these months. And assuming that my brain is willing to come back from vacation. It's been enjoying goofing off much too much, stuffing itself on cheesy novels and sugary old movies.
I've been researching markets for short stories, and I think the way to go about this is to write to guidelines. I'm used to writing to guidelines (yes, and having them changed fifteen times in process, too). If I make each story an assignment, I may fool my brain into thinking it has to go to work.
It's worth a try, anyway. |
